Colleen's fundraising page!
Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page!
I joined the Ladies Guild three years ago to start volunteering for this awesome organization. Fifteen years ago, before Haley was born, I worked as a magazine editor and had the chance to interview Fr. Joe. He is the real deal. A true, down-to-earth Catholic priest who just wants to help neighbors. This organization gets stuff done. And guess what? I now work for this exemplary organization on their grant writing team.
If you live in San Diego, homelessness smacks you in the face every morning, noon and night. Statistics show that we have the 4th largest homeless population in the country. Unfortunately, San Diego also has the lowest rental vacancy rates in the country, so there are very limited opportunities for those who are facing homelessness to find housing.
A common misnomer is that San Diego has a nice climate, so our homeless have traveled from afar. A recent study revealed that this is not true. Many of our neighbors experiencing homelessness were in housing recently but lost a job, got ill or face other barriers.
So, we are asking for your support of this event to help provide more long-term housing options for our homeless neighbors in need. Even $5 will go a very long way for such a short walk.
On August 3rd, I will be walking to support Father Joe's Villages' efforts to help all of our neighbors find their path to self-sufficiency. Father Joe's Villages is a one-stop-shop for getting people off the streets. They provide hope, medical treatment, therapeutic childcare, employment education and training, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and housing to those most in need.
